Allison Sometimes ("I", "me", "this site) is a publication created by Allison Jones. I take your digital privacy seriously. Below, I explain what information I collect when you visit or join, how I use it, who else handles it, and how it's protected.
What I collect:
When you sign up: your email address and the name you provide.
When you become a paid member, send a tip, or buy a gift: payments are processed via Stripe. Stripe collects all billing details, including mailing address, in order to process your payment. On the Stripe platform, I am able to see invoice details such as your given name, billing address, transaction total, membership tier, email address, and payment information including the issuer (i.e. Capital One or Chase), expiration date, processor (i.e. Visa or Mastercard), and the last 4 digits of your card.
When you comment: the name you provided and whatever you write.
When you read the site: Members get a sign-in cookie from Ghost. Ghost’s analytics tracks visits and pages read in aggregate. Ghost, and this site, doesn’t use non-essential cookies. I don’t use Google Analytics or any advertising or remarketing tools.
When you write to me via email: your email address, account name, and whatever you send in your email, which is delivered to me via Google Workspace.
How I use it:
To offer membership, including the sign in process and your ability to access the content that your chosen membership tier includes.
To send you the content you requested access to upon your becoming a member of this site, as well as any relevant account-related messages such as sign-in links or receipts.
To process payments, gifts, and tips.
To keep the site working as intended.
Who it's shared with:
I share information with the services required to run the site as intended and only as needed. I don’t sell or share your personal information for advertising-related purposes. The following platforms provide the services required to run the site as intended:
Ghost hosts the site, holds the member list and account details, and sends the newsletter and account emails (ghost.org/privacy).
Stripe processes payments, tips, and gifts (stripe.com/privacy).
Google (Google Workspace) provides my email. When you write to me, your message and email address are handled by Google’s email service (policies.google.com/privacy).
All information is passed to these service providers electronically through the site’s own connections to those services and never by hand. I may disclose information, if the law requires it.
How it's protected:
The site is served over HTTPS (encrypted in transit). The sign-in process uses one-time email links in lieu of passwords. All payment details are contained on Stripe’s platform. Access to the site’s administrative portal is limited to me.
Cookies:
No advertising, tracking, or other non-essential cookies are used in the operation of this site.
Your choices and rights:
You can change your name, email, subscription, and newsletter preferences yourself in Your Account. You can unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of it.
You can request that I disclose any information I hold about you, correct it, delete it or give you a copy of it by emailing me at the address provided below.
If you live in California, you have these rights under the CCPA and CPRA. If you live in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have these rights under the GDPR.
You have the right to object to how I use your information and to complain to your local data protection authority.
Some payment records may need to be kept for tax or legal reasons.
If you’re outside of the United States, please note that your information is processed in the United States by Ghost and Stripe. I’m based in the United States in New York, New York.
Children:
This site is for adults. I don’t knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you have reason to believe a child has given me information, email me and I’ll delete it and their account.
Do Not Track:
I don’t track you across other sites and therefore this site doesn’t respond to “Do Not Track” signals.
Policy changes:
If I change anything written this policy, I’ll update the date above.
